After removing gluten from my diet, I was relieved. I finally felt better. The embarrassing flatulence was gone. The pain was gone. The runs? Also gone. My body was healthier and I felt more alive. I guess you could say I started to feel “normal” again.

Irony set in once eating salad became a bore and I started to realize that being gluten-free was anything but normal.

That’s when some dear friends came to my rescue, sending my hubby a list of all of the places I could go gluten-free grocery shopping in Vancouver. I was relieved once more.

I was over the moon to learn that gluten-free eaters could have pasta, bread, and sweets. It wasn’t long before I discovered the slew of horrible products on the market. Bread shouldn’t crumble the moment it touches your hand and pasta shouldn’t taste like mush. That’s how my journey to find better gluten-free products began.

So here are some great products, restaurants, and grocery stores to help you get through any gluten-free woes you might be having.

Great list! I thought I’d add a few more:

East End Food Co-op on the Drive sells some gluten-free products, as do both locations of Donald’s.

El Barrio has regular gluten-free customers and they know how to prepare food safely. They even changed their menu to make it more accessible for g-free eaters.

Perch is the sister restaurant to The Wallflower and has both gluten-free and vegan menus. In fact, they serve g-free pizza every day there.

I agree with your choices. Donald’s Market on Commercial & also Hastings has gluten free products, even the Commercial Drive Safeway now carries Udi’s. I think Edible Canada has the best gluten free menu around, and their fish and chips are amazing!

There’s a new gf bakery on Broadway near Main. Anyone been there yet?
